Iceland is a great destination for cave exploring. In Iceland you will find many large and colorful lava caves since Iceland is an active volcano island. There have been numerus volcanic eruptions throughout the centuries which has left the country with many interesting lava fields and tubes.
How did the lava tubes develop in Iceland?
During a Vulcanic eruption the warm lava flows and makes huge fields. The surface is the first part to cool down, which makes hard crust. Underneath the surface the lava continues to flow in streams, that makes the lava tunnels. As the Vulcanic eruptions comes to an end the floating lava empties out the tunnels and leaves them for us to explore hundreds and thousands of years later.
